About me
Web development
I am a senior LAMP developer, currently employed by Tangent Labs, part of Tangent PLC. My current projects include some large ecommerce applications such as www.borders.co.uk, http://www.angusrobertson.com.au amongst others.
I am a Zend Certified Engineer and have strong interests in all aspects of web development, especially open-source software projects like the Zend Framework, PHPunit, Phing and Xinc.
I am a programming addict and spend huge tracts of my spare time learning new languages and puting together new apps (see my projects page for some example pet projects). I am an avid consumer of programming aggregator sites such as Programming Reddit, Hacker News and Stack Overflow. A minor ambition of mine was acheived in February 2009, when commandlinefu.com spent all day at the number #1 spot on Programming Reddit:
Academia
I hold a doctorate and a masters degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Nottingham. The topic of my thesis was "Pattern formation with a conservation law" - further details of my research together with a list of my publications can be found on my research page.
Previous employment
I previously worked for HM Revenue & Customs, providing econometric and statistical analysis to HM Treasury on a range of indirect taxation topics. I was also the site-creator and webmaster for the Governemnt Operational Researchers Service (GORS) - their site is www.operational-research.gov.uk.
